2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.

The president stated that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

The news follows a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and experience in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most well-known series in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
